According to a report from the Omaha World Herald, health officials said Friday that a bat in Sarpy County has tested positive for rabies. It’s the first confirmed rabies case of the year and give us our annual reminder about the seriousness of the virus for people and animals.
As it’s peak season for insects, bats are active. Humans and animals will most likely come in close proximity to bats around dusk. Rabies can be transmitted through a bite or scratch from a rabid animal; saliva or blood can carry it.
